Our sales agent was amazing and our second CM has been wonderful, but unfortunately, some mistakes are too expensive and work-intensive to resolve at this point. Our first CM made a slew of mistakes -- misframed walls, crooked island, and we ended up with a sewage backup within the first week, of living in our new home. We definitely wish we'd had an inspector come out for the predrywall walk and again before closing. GET A GOOD INSPECTOR! However, overall, we are loving our home and our new CM has been very empathetic and good to work with in correcting issues that we can still resolve. The Highland employees are very friendly and helpful. Building a new home Is a very complex process, so be sure to document everything and try to be as involved during the construction process, as possible. We are not pleased with the masonry sub-contractor but understand they have since replaced them. Highland also appears to be genuinely concerned about taking care of any warranty issues. Designer chosen colors and fixtures provided me with a home that is lovely, and well built. Light and airy with lots of windows and high ceilings, the home is comfortable and attractive.

Had to call twice now for breaker keeps blowing. Electrician keeps coming out saying there is no issues. So guess we will just have to get used to resetting the breaker.

First, I love my home. The design, amount of space for the price and the high ceilings are my favorite aspects of the house.

I love my home but there are things that highland does not offer that my last 2 builds did. I built an over $300k home and the lights they put in the bathroom cost $15. I wanted to upgrade those lights but it was not allowed. I wanted a seat in my shower, but it wasn’t allowed, I wanted a farm sink but it wasn’t allowed. They were responsive to our requests and concerns.

My timing was not ideal with being between three holidays Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Regardless the responsiveness and the handling of all the issues from the construction manager was outstanding. Many thanks to him for making unpleasant situation bearable. ... More

we believe we made the right decision in choosing highland homes. The best thing is that they fixed, corrected all the items which were reported in inspection before the closing. Their work wise we don't have any problems, it might be too early to give a review bcos it takes more time for us to see if we have any concerns about the purchase. We had looked in the Wildridge community for quite some time - at all the builders. We had decided to go with one of the other builders until we just happened to go back to Highland and learned of a new floor plan we had not seen. Not only was the floor plan perfect for our needs but further looks at the build quality showed us it was a touch better than what we had been looking at. All in all we are well pleased with the build out, time frame, communication, desire to please and get it right and have been in for a couple of months now. Workmanship and the quality of contruction not up to par. Small details out of places; such as, broken tiles, outlets not align, scratches doors, hard to open doors, yard work not ballance etc...

Concrete and brick work is very sloppy. Not what you would expect for a new home. Also a few issues inside like widows not being square.

The workmanship is fairly shoddy.

The people that you work with are great and very responsive.

Quicker response to warranty work

We moved into t two story Richmond plan. It is an extremely beautiful home and we love our house!! Our Sales rep is the BEST!!! We close in July and realized quickly that there were some issues with our HVAC system. Our builder was very quick to respond to the issues and has been working closely with us to ensure it gets resolved. The people/ companies that Highland contract with obviously struggle in their profession because 5 trips later, our HVAC is still not fixed. I don't blame Highland, but the definitely need to take ownership and look for a more reliable HVAC company. ... More

The sales people are awesome and stay in touch with you. The project manager was quite responsive throughout the process. However, the drywall has multiple cracks in the corners of many walls and the material used for the baseboards seems cheap or old. The caulking dried and shrunk in less than 2 months and several nail pops appeared right away. They don't be appear to be covered under the warranty. ... More

For a house of that value, one would expect to see higher quality fittings eg light, tiles and wooden cabinets. In addition a better utilization of the space especially to increase the size of the rooms. Carpets are no longer necessary in bedrooms due to allergy issues so could have been tiles or wood for the floors. ... More

Overall good experience, but some of the aesthetic issues called out on the punch list were ignored. I'm not happy with the quality of some of the finishes and faucets, but I guess it's acceptable for the price point. All of the people I worked with were great, there was just a little under-delivery in the final product. ... More

Get the House you want in the area you want

My only interior problem is with the USB UBS? plugs. They don't let you plug anything into them. I have waited weekS for someone to come take them out. I have been using extension cords that are not handy or safe and I am tired of it. And for an energy efficient home, I am surprised that 11 lights come on in the bathroom with one switch! There is no other choice. The garage is so small there is no place for storage. My main complaint with the yard is how uneven the dirt was before they laid the sod. It is lumpy, uneven, with ruts and hard to walk on. It gets very muddy from lack of proper drainage. It slants too much, on the side of the home, to even walk on it safely. I hate it! ... More

I gave stated this before that while my house was be built it was very difficult to get progress reports from our builder . Now we are also working with the warranty division on a serious paint issue on our kitchen cabinets.

Love my new home but there should be more attention to the little details that stand out once you move in. Maybe not so rushed to make sure everything is correct. Overall I would rate a 4 out of 5 stars. There’s always room for improvement!
